Thomas Del Prete, Director of the Adam Institute for Urban Teaching and School Practice, has been awarded a contract for an additional $10,000 from Worcester Public Schools (via a Massachusetts Department of Education grant) for continuation of the project entitled “Title II-B: Massachusetts Mathematics and Science Partnership Program (MMSP).” Del Prete’s project targets mathematical content with a focus on math teaching and learning at the middle school level, where there is a noticeable drop in mathematical performance as students work on both their arithmetic and algebraic thinking.

MMSP’s goal is to increase the academic achievement of students in mathematics and science by enhancing the standards knowledge and teaching skills of educators. Partnerships between high-need school districts and the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) faculty in institutions of higher education are at the core of these improvement efforts.

Del Prete’s interests include university-school partnerships, the development of teaching practice and models of teacher preparation, secondary school reform, history curriculum and learning, and spirituality and education. His most recent books focus on urban school cultures and practice, and professional learning through the rounds model. Del Prete founded and supports the continuing development of Clark’s Worcester partner-school collaborative, including the Goddard, Hiatt, and Woodland elementary schools, and Claremont Academy, South High and University Park Campus School.
