Marketplace is a free forum for Clark employees who would like to advertise personal items they would like to sell, rent or give away.  You may set an expiration date on your post or the editor will set an expiration of 2 weeks by default.   The weekly schedule of vendors and artisans selling wares on the University Center Concourse is also listed here.

In providing this forum space, any and all communications and transactions are between the buyer and seller, not Clark University or the University Communications Department. Clark University is not responsible for any item advertised, its represenation, sale, or any guarantees or implied warranties that may be attached to the item by the seller.

Disallowed Items

In general, we will not publish the following:

  1. Anything that is that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, libelous, invasive of another’s privacy, or is harmful to minors in any way;
  2. Any item that violates Massachusetts or Federal law.  Any item that is consider “illegal” or “prohibited” on campus or in the residence halls should include a disclaimer statement that mentions this fact.  For example, you may sell a charcoal grill on the Marketplace, but this item is prohibited from the residence halls and a disclaimer would be necessary in order to post the item.  You can find a list of prohibited items on the Housing web site.
  3. In conjunction with local and federal law, you may not sell any animals or pets on the Marketplace.
  4. News Digest will not post student sublets or property rental information.  Anyone interested in renting or subletting a property can contact Residential Life and Housing for inclusion on their apartment listing website.  There is a fee for this service.

In addition, please note the following list of prohibited items:

  • animals and wildlife products – examples include live animals, mounted specimens, and ivory
  • art
  • artifacts, grave-related items, and Native American arts and crafts
  • catalytic converters and test pipes
  • cell phone (wireless) service contracts
  • clothing, used
  • cosmetics, used
  • counterfeit currency and stamps
  • credit cards
  • currency, selling
  • drugs and drug paraphernalia
  • drugs, describing drugs or drug-like substances
  • electronics equipment – examples include cable TV de-scramblers, radar scanners, and traffic signal control devices
  • electronic surveillance equipment – examples include wiretapping devices and telephone bugging devices
  • embargoed goods and prohibited countries – examples include items from Cuba
  • event tickets – unless sold at face value or lower
  • firearms, weapons, and knives – examples include pepper spray, replicas, and stun guns (see also military items)
  • food and healthcare items
  • gift cards
  • government documents, IDs, and licenses
  • government, transit, and shipping-related items – examples include airplane operations manuals, subway employee uniforms, and U.S. Postal Service (USPS) mailbags
  • hazardous materials – examples include batteries, fireworks, and Freon
  • human parts and remains
  • importation of goods into the United States – examples include CDs that were intended only for distribution in a certain country
  • international trading
  • items encouraging illegal activity – examples include an eBook describing how to create methamphetamine
  • lock picking devices
  • lottery tickets
  • mailing lists and personal information
  • manufacturers’ coupons
  • medical devices – examples include contact lenses, pacemakers, and surgical instruments
  • military items (see also firearms, weapons, and knives)
  • multi-level marketing, pyramid, and matrix programs
  • offensive material – examples include ethnically or racially offensive material and Nazi memorabilia
  • pesticides
  • plants (see weeds and seeds)
  • police-related items
  • political memorabilia (reproduction)
  • postage meters
  • prescription drugs
  • prohibited services
  • real estate
  • recalled items
  • slot machines
  • stamps
  • stocks and other securities
  • stolen property and property with removed serial numbers
