Practicing Geography Week is April 11-17

Practicing Geography Week 2016The School of Geography is happy to announce the schedule of events for this year’s Practicing Geography Week! 2016 marks our fifth year running this week full of career-focused events for undergraduate students interested in Geography, Global Environmental Studies, and Earth System Science. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend these events, as they will present great opportunities to get to know your peers as well as faculty and graduate students in our department. Monday, April 11
• Geography Spring Kick-Off event
Goddard Grove Fire Pit by Goddard Library, 2 to 4 p.m.
Come mingle over a cozy bonfire with snacks and spring-themed activities… more info to follow!

• CUGA Trivia Night
Jefferson 222, 8 to 10 p.m.
Join the Clark Undergraduate Geography Association for a night of trivia, pizza and prizes!

Tuesday, April 12
• Student Research Symposium
Geography Commons, 2 to 4 p.m.
Join undergraduate and graduate students to learn about their current research and see how these ideas can develop. Details on presenters TBA.

Wednesday, April 13
• Practicing Geography Alumna Lecturer: Serena Galleshaw ’12, Global Environmental Studies
Sackler Sciences Center 122, 6 to 8 p.m.
Hear alumna Serena Galleshaw talk about her experiences after Clark and provide advice for seeking a career after graduation. Details and talk title TBA.

Thursday, April 14
• Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU) Induction
Jefferson 200, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Gamma Theta Upsilon induction ceremony for students who have been newly accepted into this Geography Honors Society. All are welcome to attend! Refreshments (cake) will be provided.

Map Library (Geography building), 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The Guy H. Burnham Map & Aerial Photograph Library is an active spatial data information center of global scope. The collection consists of 230,000 maps, 7,800 aerial photographs, 1500 CD-ROMs, as well as atlases, journals, globes, map reference materials, tourist information and monographs (primarily on the subjects of cartography, history of cartography, computerized cartography, map and imagery interpretation, remote sensing and GIS). The library serves the faculty, students, and staff of Clark University, as well as the general public throughout New England.

Friday, April 15 – Sunday, April 17
• Practicing Geography NYC Field Trip
(Sign-up ONLY, spots still available!)
A weekend trip to New York City for newly declared undergraduate students in Geography, GES and ESS! The full itinerary will be circulated to attendees shortly.
