Turn it up (the a/c, that is)!

Whew! It’s hot – and getting hotter! Air conditioning may be the only way to make it through the day; a cool haven from the baking streets of Worcester. But did you know you can enjoy your air conditioning and STILL make a difference for the climate? By turning the air conditioner’s thermostat up just 2 degrees — from 68 to 70, or 70 to 72 — you save 1,050 pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere, and save money too.

Air conditioning is the second biggest household (or office) electricity user, after the refrigerator. Turning it up — even just a little — can make a big difference in CO2, and chances are you barely notice the few degrees. Better yet, open windows to get a cross draft going and use a fan on days when it is merely ‘seasonably warm.’
