Strassler lecture explores the work of Jewish photrogapher Roman Vishniac

  • April 7, 7:30 p.m.
  • Tilton Hall, Higgins University Center

Public reception to follow the event.

Lecture by Maya Benton.  She is a curator at the International Center of Photography focusing on documentary photographs of Jewish life in Eastern and Central Europe. She serves as collection manager for the estate of the celebrated Jewish photographer Roman Vishniac. The Vishniac archive is well known for preserving images of Eastern European Jewry in the years immediately before the Holocaust. Benton explores a range of ambiguities in Vishniac’s work and questions long-held assumptions about the meaning of these photographs. For more information, click here.

Sponsored by the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Geocide Studies in collaboration with Jewish Studies and the Worcester Jewish Community Center.
