Garcia Named All-American, Finishes Tenth At NCAA Championships

Knoxville, Tenn. – Junior Eileen Garcia (New York, N.Y.) etched her name alongside some of the great student-athletes in the history of Clark University athletics with her tenth place finish on the three-meter diving board at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday afternoon.

Garcia becomes just the fifth student-athlete in school history to be named All-America three times after posting a score of 406.75.

Ironically, three of the five three-time All-Americans at Clark are either swimmers or divers, with Garcia joining Cathy Desrosiers and Margaret Cromwell, both members of the class of 1982.

Her tenth place finish is her second-best showing at the NCAA Championships on the three-meter. In 2009 as a freshman, she was eighth and in 2010 she was 16th.

The College of New Jersey’s Danica Roskos dethroned defending champion Hayley Emerick with a score of 502.45. Emerick, who set an NCAA record en route to her title a season ago, finished second with a score of 458.20.

Garcia will have the opportunity to earn another All-America nod on the one-meter board when she competes in that event beginning on Friday.
