April 8: Dept. of State careers and opportunities networking event

The Boston NSLI-Y Alumni Association invites all interested Clark University students and faculty to the first NSLI-Y (National Security Language Initiative for Youth) Networking Event: Department of State Careers and Opportunities. This event seeks to give Clark students and faculty the opportunity to meet professionals working in international affairs, learn about different career paths and exchange opportunities, and connect with alumni. The event will feature Jon Danilowicz, New England Diplomat in Residence, and exchange alumnus Michael Acosta.

  • Jon Danilowicz is the appointed U.S Department of State’s Diplomat in Residence (DIR) for the New England area. He has spent 26 years working as a foreign service officer and is now based at Tufts University. A graduate
    of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, Danilowicz most recently served as Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Peshawar, Pakistan, from 2014 to 2015. From 2012 to 2014, he served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Earlier in his career, Danilowicz served multiple tours in Pakistan and Bangladesh as well as in Washington, D.C., in the Bureau of South Asian Affairs. His other foreign postings include service at the U.S. embassies in Panama, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. He also served in the State Department Operations Center. His foreign languages include Bengali, Portuguese, and Spanish.
  • Michael Acosta is a graduate student at UMass Amherst’s Center for International Education, studying conflict and peace mediation education. In 2012, he worked as an English teacher trainer with Peace Corps in Madagascar, and more recently spent a year in Jordan on a Boren Fellowship, where he conducted research on teachers of Syrian refugees. Acosta will be using the results of his research for his master’s capstone project. In summer 2016, he served as resident director of the NSLI-Y Arabic summer program in Jordan. His foreign languages include Spanish and Arabic.

Registration is now open, and space is limited to the first 60 people who RSVP by MARCH 31 on the Eventbrite page: nsliyboston.eventbrite.com. This event is open to alumni of U.S. Department of State-sponsored exchange programs, Clark University students, and all others who are interested.
