Celebration Saturday at the Kneller Athletic Center

Worcester, Mass. – Saturday, February 7 is shaping up to be one of the most action-packed days in recent Clark Athletics memory.

A host of events will be taking place, most of which are centered around the basketball doubleheader at the Kneller Athletic Center.

The day kicks off with the women’s basketball alumnae game at 10:00 AM, followed by the men’s alumni game at 10:45 AM and a luncheon for alums and their families at 12:00 PM.

There will be complimentary admission for members of the Class of 2014, while others planning to attend will receive a t-shirt and lunch for $20 per person.

Women’s basketball will begin the action at 1:00 p.m. as they host MIT, who has former standout Sarah (Hagstrom) Akashian on their coaching staff.

The men will take center stage at 3:00 p.m. when they welcome Emerson College for a game that will go a long way in determining postseason playoff positioning.

Prior to the start of each contest, the basketball programs will honor their members of the Class of 2015. For the women, it is Tori Russo (Arlington, Mass.) and for the men it is Conor Dow (Needham, Mass.).

At halftime of the men’s contest, the Department of Athletics is hoping to get the crowd and any interested members of the Clark community involved in the “If You Can Play, You Can Play” initiative, which calls for inclusion for all sports regardless of your race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religious beliefs. The Department is producing a video and would love for as many people to participate as possible.

The doubleheader will also shed light on the ongoing fight against breast cancer as part of the national women’s basketball initiative, “Play 4Kay”. Admission into both games are free for everyone. It is the hope that those who do attend will wear pink and make a donation to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund at the designated donation drop off spots at the main entrance to the gymnasium. At the conclusion of the men’s game, a large group photo will be taken of those in the crowd wearing pink, so please stick around!

In addition to all these events, men’s and women’s swimming and diving will be taking part in the Wheaton College Invite and men’s tennis opens the spring portion of their schedule against Vassar at the Paxton Sports Centre.
