Johnston named to National Research Council Committee to evaluate rebuilding of fishing stocks

Rob Johnston, Director of the Marsh Institute and professor of economics, has been named to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences’ National Research Council Committee that has been established to “Evaluate the Effectiveness of Stock Rebuilding Plans of the 2006 Fishery Conservation and Management Reauthorization Act (FCMRA).”

The committee will undertake an analysis of the effects of the Magnuson Stevens Act (MSA) (and subsequent amendments) mandate to rebuild overfished stocks, including an evaluation of success in stock rebuilding, and the identification of changes made to fisheries management in response to rebuilding requirements.
