Patricia D. Doherty, associate director of the Office of Intercultural Affairs, has been selected to receive a Fulbright award to the U.S.- Germany International Education Administrators Program.

Since 2006 Doherty has worked closely with Clark’s student body, staff, and faculty as an adviser, mentor and trainer. She advises the Global Scholars Program and mentors students on immigration, personal, and educational concerns. She has been instrumental in providing intercultural programming to the Clark community and creates and leads campus-wide training sessions on intercultural communication.  She is a member of the CAVE (Clark’s Anti-Violence Education Program), and has traveled internationally for recruitment purposes. Doherty has served on the Region XI team of NAFSA (Association of International Educators) in a variety of roles and currently chairs that group.  She recently accepted a seat on the Fairfield University Alumni Board.

“I am excited about the opportunity to learn about Germany’s educational system and to meet and establish networks with international colleagues.  I expect that this once in a lifetime experience will help me to better serve our International community here at Clark and give me the opportunity to encourage our students to become global citizens by seizing the opportunity to study abroad,” Doherty said.

Doherty, a Worcester resident, received her Master of Arts in Counseling with a concentration in Higher Education at Montclair State University (N.J.) and a B.A. in English at Fairfield University (Conn.).

Fulbright alumni have become heads of state, judges, ambassadors, cabinet ministers, CEOs, university presidents, journalists, artists, professors and teachers. They have been awarded 43 Nobel Prizes. Since its inception more than 60 years ago, approximately 300,000 Fulbrighters have participated in the Program.
