Clark hosts conference on campus composting, this Friday

Program Coordination & Strategies for Successful Organics Diversion on Campus

  • Friday, April 27; 9 a.m. to noon
  • The Grind, Higgins University Center lower level

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and the Massachusetts College & University Recycling Council invite everyone in the Clark community to their spring meeting. Clark has been asked to host because we have figured out some of the solutions ahead of many other colleges and universities; Clark is on its fifth year of large-scale composting.

The conference schedule features a continental breakfast followed by presentations from MassDEP, the Center for Eco-Technology, the EPA, Clark’s Dining Services, and the Clark Eco-Reps. There will also be a tour of Clark’s kitchen and composting facilities and an open discussion to dig into the challenges and solutions to composting on an institutional scale. With the MassDEP’s proposed 2014 ban on organic materials in the institutional waste stream, this conference — and Clark’s successful model —  is very timely.

Facilities and sustainability leaders from campuses across Massachusetts are expected to attend, and all participants will receive a discount on lunch in the Higgins cafeteria.
