New Play Festival begins Wednesday, April 11

The Theatre Arts Program will present its New Play Festival on Wednesday through Saturday, April 11-14, 18-21, and 25-28. All performances will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Michelson Theater at the Little Center. The festival will feature two guest artists in residence, Padraic Lillis of New York and Alberto Lombardo of Paris, France.

Clark’s Theatre Program is an exciting generator of art at many levels. Works will be shown by nine student playwrights, including three readings and six full productions. The six plays to be performed include “Absolution,” by Alexandra Tennant, directed by Christine Dunant; “And Likewise,” by Hannah Yukon, directed by Danny Zeliger; “Jet Boy/Jet Girl,” by Alex Kump, directed by Danny Balel; “Slanted and Enchanted,” by Thad Kelly, directed by Maria Anderson; “The Greatest Biblical Story Ever Told,” by Michelle Houle, directed by Chelsea Long; and “You Can’t Life With Em, You Can’t Live With Em,” by Shauna Noone, directed by Hannah Yukon.

Padraic Lillis is a writer and director. His production of Flight by Michel Wallerstein is currently running Off-Broadway at the Daryl Roth Theater. His play Lake Effect will be produced by Alchemy Theatre in the fall of 2012. Padraic’s play Lights Up on the Fade Out was named one of the top ten plays of 2011 in L.A. His play Two Thirds Home is published by Dramatists Play Services originally produced in New York by Broken Watch Theater Company. Padraic directed Sweet Storm at Clark University, prior to the plays successful Off-Broadway run.

Alberto Lombardo is a writer, actor, and director. He is an alumnus of the Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Lyon, and of the Antoine Vitez Workshops at the National Theatre of Chaillot in Paris. Lombardo currently performs with several companies, as well as in his own productions. He is the author of 15 plays that are regularly produced throughout Europe, and his play Un parfum de montgolfiere (A Scent of a Hot-Air Balloon) is scheduled for production at the 2012 Fringe Festivals in Barcelona and Montreal.

The festival’s production and development is facilitated by Theatre Arts Program Director Gino DiIorio, and dramatists Erica Nagel and Jeff Zinn.

Admission to the festival is $5.00 for the general public, or free with college ID.
