Heard at the (bottle-less) water cooler…

As of November, 17 water coolers on the Clark campus have been upgraded to greener, cleaner, safer bottle-less filtration models. That’s about 30% of the coolers on campus!

According to Business Manager Paul Wykes, in most cases there is a cost savings to the University because the filtered water comes from our own water lines and there are no more heavy bottles to buy (let alone lift and throw your back out!). The carbon savings are harder to calculate, but the bottles of water come out of an aquifer in Maine and are trucked all the way to Worcester…

Poland Springs, our “water solutions provider,” will install a bottle-less water cooler at no charge. It taps into our water lines (A sink needs to be within 25 feet, although the line may be able to installed through walls), has a built-in filtration system, chills and heats water just the same – but with no big bottle on top!

Interested in making the greener water switch? Contact our Poland Springs rep, Robert Neidel (508-935-3542) to find out about different models available. Please check first with Physical Plant at ext. 7566 to be sure it is safe to make the switch in your office.

Of course, for maximum sustainability and water-consciousness, a filter on the faucet or a pitcher in the fridge is the way to go. But this is a great solution for those offices that want to get rid of the bottle and keep the convenience. Join the water revolution at Clark!
