Anita Häusermann Fábos, Associate Professor of International Development and Social Change and Coordinator of the Graduate Program in International Development and Social Change, gave a keynote address at the Association of Middle East Women’s Studies (AMEWS) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 1.

The meeting celebrated Sondra Hale, Professor of Anthropology and Women’s Studies at UCLA, for her lifetime academic scholarship on gender studies in the Middle East and North Africa region, and Sudan in particular, as well as her contribution to the AMEWS Association. Fábos’s talk was titled “‘Mapping Impact’: Sondra Hale’s Scholarship and Activism in People and Places.”

AMEWS is an organization of scholars and individuals with an interest in women and gender studies in the context of the Middle East/ North Africa and beyond, including transnational and diasporic communities in Europe as well as North and South America. AMEWS is affiliated with the Middle East Studies Association of North America, Inc., and works with academic networks around the world.
