Alumna’s film ‘Seeking Happily Ever After’ will be screened March 22

Women’s and Gender Studies will screen “Seeking Happily Ever After” on Tuesday, March 22 from 4 to 5:45 p.m. in Jefferson 218. Following the film, there will be a question and answer period with the filmmaker, Michelle Cove ’91.

Cove is the author of Seeking Happily Ever After: How to navigate the ups and downs of being single without losing your mind (Tarcher Penguin, 2010), a self-help book based on three years of research and interviews from the documentary of the same title. The book has been featured in Marie Claire, MORE, FOX TV, Forbes and numerous other publications. Michelle is also the co-author of national bestseller I’m Not Mad, I just Hate You!: a new understanding of mother-daughter conflict (Viking, 1999), which appeared on several national talk shows including Oprah and the Today Show. She is currently the Editor of 614: the HBI ezine, an online magazine that aims to spark conversation about hot topics among young Jewish women, and has been writing and editing for national magazines for the past 15 years, including Psychology Today, Mother Earth News, Girls’ Life and Family Fun.

Much of Michelle’s writing has been focused on empowering girls and women, and she feels this documentary is a natural next step: “The goal of this film is to challenge women to stop thinking about happily-ever-after in terms of princes and picket fences, and get them to start thinking about what happiness looks like now for them as adult individuals–and how to get it,” she says. Michelle is married (got hitched in her 30s) with a six-year-old daughter Risa, who gravitates towards sparkly princess shoes and tiaras.
