GSOM Student Council Elections

Become a leader in the GSOM community! GSOM Student Council Elections are almost here!

GSOM Student Council is pledged to be the voice of the student body and ensure that the concerns of the students are respectfully heard and satisfactorily resolved. We serve as the liaison between the students, the GSOM administration and the Clark University community at large. We shall constantly strive towards improving the quality of life of all students by advocating high caliber curricula and through extracurricular professional, community and social activities.

This is your chance to become a member of this team and provide your necessary input to GSOM’s activities. The job descriptions of available positions are given below:

1. President:

The President is ultimately responsible for executing a strategic plan that improves the overall quality of life of all GSOM students, shall lead the council in a fiscally responsible and professional manner, shall ensure that the students’ needs are met through SC sponsored activities and events, be responsible for representing the views and concerns of the student body to the GSOM administration and the Clark University community.

Recommended Professional Experience: At least two years of professional work experience and proven leadership abilities.

2. Vice President:

The Vice President shall support the President’s efforts and involvement with the Administration. In addition, he/she shall be responsible for internal oversight of the council’s internal communication and financial reporting.

Recommended Professional Experience: At least one year of professional work experience and proven leadership abilities.

3. General Secretary:

The General Secretary takes the minutes of the meetings, coordinates the meetings; is responsible for all written communication to the student body, makes any amendments to the Constitution and/or the by-laws; organizes the electronic voting process; as well as any other formal record keeping / written documentation that the team needs.

Recommended Professional Experience: None. However, previous student government experience and proven leadership abilities are recommended.

4. Treasurer:

The Treasurer works closely with the President to prepare the student council annual budget, and be responsible for meeting with GSOM’s Director of Finance as often as necessary to facilitate the funding of SC sponsored events.

Recommended Professional Experience: None. However, previous experience in student government and/or experience in organization budgeting is recommended.

5. Media and Events Planner:

The Media / Events Planner works closely with the President to organize and sponsor events that support the strategic initiatives of the student council and meet the needs of the students’ interests and/or requests, serves as GSOM SC’s Student Representative to the Graduate Student Council (GSC) of Clark.

Recommended Professional Experience: None. However previous experience in student government and/or experience in student organization event planning are recommended.

Nomination Requirements: In order to be considered for office students should have: 1) completed one full semester at GSOM, 2) a minimum GPA of 3.2, 3) have not received any academic sanctions nor been involved with any disciplinary actions. In addition, each candidate shall submit his/her resume at the time of announcing his/her candidacy, and 4) shall be able to serve for a term of one full academic year in the elected position.

Nomination Process: Self-Nominations will open on 9 AM, Monday, March 12th and will last until 11:59 PM, Thursday, March 15th. Self-nominations shall be emailed to the GSOM SC email address (gsomsc@clarku.edu). The email should include the following information: Name, email address, and position interested. The number of nominees per position shall be circulated via email on Monday, March 19st, and posted on the designated election webpage and posted in the student area on the 1st floor of Carlson Hall.

Campaigning Guidelines: Nominees are allowed to use printed (posters, flyers, etc.) and electronic (PPT’s, photos, etc.) material to campaign. All electronic campaign material must be submitted to the GSOM SC email address by the close of business Friday, March 16th. Campaign week begins on Monday, March 19th at 9 AM through Friday, March 23rd 11:59 PM. Candidates will give speeches at a designated place and time on Monday, March 26th. Speeches will be recorded and uploaded onto the webpage that evening.

Please note: Candidates MUST run a positive campaign. Any attempts to defame/discredit other candidates (oral or written) will result in an immediate disqualification.

Voting: Voting will open at 9 AM Tuesday, March 27th and will close at 11:59 PM Thursday, March 29th.

Results: Candidates will be notified via. Email on Friday, March 30th. Election results will be announced at the Annual Gala on April 1st.
