Research Assistant for Professor Gary Chaison

Professor Chaison is looking for a qualified student who will assist him with research for his next book, the theme of which will be labor unions and globalization. The majority of the tasks required will include literature searches for books, articles, and international government reports, as well as searches on databases of labor unions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Position information: Time commitment: 10 hours per week for the 14 weeks of the spring semester. Pay rate: $12.50 per hour. Potential for continued work in the Summer and Fall 2013 semesters.

Requirements: Applicants should have completed one of the following courses taught by Professor Chaison: MGMT 5201 Human Resource Management, MGMT 5407 International Labor Relations, MGMT 225 Human Resource Management, or MGMT 226 Union Management Relations.

More about Professor Chaison: Gary Chaison is a GSOM professor of labor relations, who teaches courses on human resource management and international labor relations, among other topics. His research deals with contemporary unionism, collective bargaining and union structure, government and growth. He has written 5 books on such topics as collective bargaining trends and the future of the American labor movement, and has authored over 50 journal articles and conference papers, many about labor law reform and union mergers. He is often contacted by newspapers and radio shows to comment on recent industrial relations events. In December, for example, he spoke to ABC, the Associated Press, the Wall Street Journal, Reuters and Bloomberg News about such issues the deadlocked negotiations of dock workers and the passage of anti-union legislation in Michigan.
