‘Miss Julie,’ directed by Ray Munro opening, 7:30pm, Little Center
Adapted by Penny Penniston and based on the play of the same name is by August Strindberg. “Miss Julie” is an naturalistic play dealing with class, love, lust, the battle of the sexes, and the interaction among them. Taking play on Saint John’s night, the mid-summer festival, in 1874, the plot is primarily concerned with power in its various forms. Miss Julie has power over Jean because she is upperclass. Jean has power over Miss Julie because he is male and uninhibited by aristocractic values. The count, Miss Julie’s father (an unseen character), has power over them both because he is a nobleman, an employer, and a father. The play will be running November 8-10 and 15-17 at 7:30pm – $5 or free with college ID.
