Spring Garden Festival

The Regional Environmental Council (REC) will kick-off the gardening season on Saturday, April 16th with its annual REC Spring Garden Festival. The event will take place from 11am-3pm at The Regional Environmental Council and Castle Street Community Garden, located on 9 Castle Street in Worcester. (rain date is Sunday April 17th, same place and time) The Festival is a gathering of those who are interested in home and/or community gardening, as well as community green spaces, locally grown foods and, local food systems.

Throughout the day there will be a plant sale, as well as workshops on:
Starting school gardens

Composting

How to make a Healthy Garden

Backyard Chickening

Community Gardeners’ Panel: Discussing best practices for organizing and running a community garden

How to build a rain barrel collection system for under $30

3 lucky folks will leave with rain barrels! The REC Spring Garden Festival features a seed giveaway, free barbecue, activities for children (such as face painting and crafts), live music, and a family-friendly, fun environment. There will be community garden awards, gardener testimonials, a raffle fundraiser, and much more!

This is an opportunity for garden enthusiasts, new growers and potential growers to be together and share their experiences with one another. There are not many events like this in the city, and this year we especially want to engage the home gardeners out there to connect them with the network of community gardeners and offer the opportunity to come enjoy the fun.

This event is free and open to the public. All are welcome to come and celebrate the gardening season!
