Great night at the GSOM Annual Banquet

Student Contributor Hayley Gao (Graduate School of Management, MSF ’16) talks about the annual GSOM Spring Banquet, an evening of awards, dinner, and dancing for GSOM students, faculty and staff.

After weeks of anticipation, the day had finally come – April 3rd, the day of the Graduate School of Management (GSOM) Formal Annual Banquet. This grand event gives everyone not only the chance to connect on a more personal level outside of our academic setting, but also a good reason to bring out our best dresses and suits from our closets!

The evening began with a reception, during which students and faculty gathered together, relaxed, and shared their new experiences at GSOM.

Next, folks took their seats to enjoy a wonderful dinner. Dean Usoff welcomed us all, and having just returned from visiting GSOM alumni and future students in China, she happily shared stories about her trip.

Then came the most exciting part of the evening – the slideshow! It is GSOM’s tradition that the student council make a video of photos and clips that captures the casual and fun moments of our graduate school studies. Nearly every student appeared in this year’s video, and it reminded us all of the many great times we’ve spent at GSOM.

Various faculty and staff members were honored, and awards were given to the best MSA, MSF and MBA students. Current Student Council general secretary Sourik Bhowmick also introduced the newly elected Student Council Members for next year. To top it off, we had a great DJ to entertain us throughout the rest of the night.

With great music, great dress, and above all, my great friends, I hoped that the night would never end. I lost count of how many great pictures we took together and how much laughter we enjoyed. I can’t help but feel grateful to be a member of GSOM and am fortunate to have met so many good people.  Can’t wait for the next get-together with my fellow students!
