March 15: Latin + American exhibition opens in Schiltkamp Gallery

art piece by Antonio Fonseca from exhibition

Antonio Fonseca. “Corazon Atormentado.” Pencil, water color, and acrylic on paper. 10 3/4″ x 30″. 2018.

March 15–May 9 in Schiltkamp Gallery, Traina Center for the Arts

This exhibition showcases a group of contemporary American artists of Latinx heritage, which in itself includes a diverse group of identities having roots in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, Central America, and South America, and comprises the descendants of Indigenous peoples, European settlers, and enslaved Africans. As the largest growing minority population in this country, these artists, with their diverse perspectives and histories, will have an increasingly important impact on national culture in the United States.

One of the artists featured, Antonio Fonseca, is a Professor of Practice in Studio Art at Clark University.

Gratitude is extended to the Art Gallery at Eastern Connecticut State University and its director, Yulia Tikhonova, from whom much of this work is on loan.

Please note: Traina Center for the Arts is open to the Clark campus community only. Public viewing will be available on the Schiltkamp Gallery webpage.
