WEC’appella, Worcester’s premier a cappella competition, pits five high school and five college groups in a sing-off for a truly gaudy trophy and bragging rights as best a cappella group in the city on Saturday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Mechanics Hall.
Tickets are $20 for general admission or $10 for students, and are available at the Mechanics Hall box office and online. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
Presented by the Worcester Education Collaborative (WEC), WEC’appella features the following groups: Burncoat High School’s Quadrivium; Doherty High School’s Madrigals; Abby Kelley Foster’s Bearitones; South High’s Harmonies; and Worcester Academy’s Hillpoppas.
College competitors include: Anna Maria’s Common Time; Assumption’s Hound Sound; Clark University’s Clark Bars; Holy Cross’ Fools on the Hill; and WPI’s Sound Logic.
Master of ceremonies is Noah Lis, season six competitor on The Voice’s Team Blake. Judges are: Richard Duckett, Telegram & Gazette entertainment reporter; Ruth Berman, a cappella performer with Boston Accent, and Brett Maguire, assistant director of the Worcester Chorus.
