Composting comes to the A.C.

COMPOST logoGreen hearts of Clark, do we have a Valentine’s Day gift for you!

You can now Compost in the Academic Commons!  What does that mean? Well, you already use the many Recycling Stations in the A.C. for your plastic, cans, foil, styrofoam & clean paper. Compost bins, clearly marked “Compost Only,” have been added for your food leftovers, Bistro containers, wood stirrers, food-stained & wet paper (think coffee cup!!), and other not-so-clean paper like paper napkins. Let’s keep it simple:

If it was ever alive, you can compost it.

So where do I put my trash, you are wondering? With the addition of Compost bins to the Recycling bins in the AC, the only trash you will have includes chip bags, candy wrappers, cellophane wrappers and other soft plastic film. Put those items in the slot labelled “Landfill.”

You might also ask, “What do I do with the bits of food I didn’t eat from a recyclable container, like a plastic box?” Simple: put the food into Compost and the plastic into Recycling.

Check out the helpful info on the Compost bins, and for even more info see the Compost or Recycling Guidelines at Sustainable Clark. Let’s do this thing.

Happy Green Valentine’s Day to the Earth! You’re welcome.

P.S. Clarkies made this happen for Clarkies. It took them 2 years of passion & perseverance & collaboration. Now it’s up to you.
