Washington Monthly: Clark University is 71st in ranking of top national colleges

Washington Monthly rankings coverWashington Monthly ranks Clark University among the top 75 U.S. colleges in its annual College Guide and Rankings, which rates schools based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: Social Mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), Research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and Ph.D.s), and Service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).

The magazine’s just-released September/October issue offers “a different kind of ranking.” The editors contrast their rankings against others, which often include measures based on wealth, exclusivity, and prestige. “Our rankings have always rejected the idea that expense, luxury, and exclusivity should be held up as the highest values for colleges and students to aspire to. Instead, we ask a different question: What are colleges doing for the country?”

In its fourth appearance in Washington Monthly annual ranking, Clark took the 71st spot on the National Universities Rankings list, and also placed 65th in the “Best Bang for the Buck” rankings.
