Nov. 5: Clark Arts presents “Identity,” a visual and musical arts residency

“Identity” is a one-day residency with Castle of Our Skins and New Gallery Concert Series that, through art, music and dialogue, explores the systemic racism faced by African-Americans.

Castle of our Skins is a concert and educational series dedicated to celebrating Black artistry through music. The New Gallery Concert Series  presents new pieces of music and visual art, along with the composers and artists who create them.

The residency will feature:

  • Portraitures of visual artist Taryn Wells, whose work explores the complicated subjects of race and identity
  • Music of Jonathan Bailey Holland, Alvin Singleton, Tania Leon, Gary Powell Nash and Anthony Green, in a program co-sponsored by the Africana Studies program

Join us this Sunday, November 5

  • 1 p.m. – pre-event reception
  • 2 p.m. – panel discussion with visual artist Taryn Wells, composer Jonathan Bailey Holland, Castle of Our Skins Director Ashleigh Gordon, New Gallery Concert Series Director Sarah Bob, and Clark professors John Aylward and Esther Jones
  • 3 p.m. – concert
