Register now: Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program for faculty, staff and graduate students

We are excited to announce the new Clark University Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program, sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The program is open to staff, faculty, and graduate students. Building an inclusive environment that promotes diversity and inclusion requires the active participation of everyone on campus. Faculty and staff play a critical role in helping to foster such an environment.

The Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program provides a valuable professional development opportunity that allows participants to engage in authentic, critical dialogue and in-depth examination of diversity, difference, power, privilege and beyond to understand how we can and why we should work together to build a more inclusive community. Participants will gain valuable knowledge and skills that will enable them to more effectively and enjoyably work and learn in an intercultural, diverse environment.

Participants have two options to enroll in the program:

  • Option One consists of nine sessions (7 core sessions and 2 electives of your choosing). Participants who complete all nine sessions within two academic years qualify to receive a certificate of completion that will be awarded at an annual graduation ceremony hosted by President Angel. During the second academic year in the program, priority registration will be provided for participants enrolled in Option One to complete their certificate in a timely manner.
  • Option Two allows individuals who are not able to pursue a certificate to enroll in sessions of interests periodically. This option does not include priority registration or the added benefit of earning a recognized, skills-based micro-credential.

Registration Details

Registration is now open. The first cohort of participants may register at no cost to them or their respective units, for all who enroll in Option One in fall 2017. All participants who enroll after spring 2018 will pay a one-time registration fee of $50 per participant.

Register here for DICP

You will need to provide registrant information, then select a session to attend. Repeat this for all desired sessions during the 2017-2018 academic year. As you register for each session you will be provided a Moodle enrollment key to access session materials.

The sessions are three hours and will be taught by various internal and external instructors in different formats. The core sessions are offered twice during the academic year, while the elective sessions are offered once.

REQUIRED session

All program participants must enroll in the “Introduction to the Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program” session, taught by President David Angel on Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 2 to 3 p.m.

REQUIRED “Learning into Practice” Project

All participants, whether enrolled in option one or two, are required to complete a project of their choosing that is relevant to their respective department or discipline using the knowledge gained in the program. This project will allow participants to actualize what they have learned and translate that into their working and learning environment at Clark. Participants can partner with others in the program to create and complete their project. (Example: A faculty member who focuses on food and environment justice partners with a staff member from dining services to conduct a workshop on food and environmental justice, and to develop an avenue to help diversify the food menu options by surveying students from various backgrounds).

Participants must submit their project proposal ideas via the online DICP Project Proposal Form by Friday, April 6, 2018. Projects are due the following academic year, on or before Friday, March 1, 2019.

Additional details about the certificate program are available here.
