Mott Linn, Jr., head of collections management in the Robert Hutchings Goddard Library, was selected as the winner of the Sustainable Clark Energy Saver Calendar prize package.

Linn was rewarded for his dedication to energy conservation on campus by completing the Energy Saver Checklist on the Calendar every month of the academic year.  He received a “prize package” including LED lightbulbs courtesy of Clark’s Physical Plant, a gift card to the Clark Community Thrift Store, a gift card to The Local Root farm stand, a Clark University tote bag courtesy of the Human Resources Office, free meal passes to the Higgins Cafeteria from Clark’s Dining Services, and a spider plant from Clark’s Sustainability Director Jenny Isler. In addition, employees in Clark’s Physical Plant Department will paint a room of Linn’s choice (on campus of course!) to reward his efforts to reduce Clark University’s carbon footprint through his individual efforts.

The Energy Saver Checklist was created by Eli Goldman ’16, a LEEP Fellow who spent the summer of 2014 working with employees in Physical Plant and Sustainable Clark, auditing buildings, hoping to see a quantifiable reduction in the amount of energy consumed on campus.

“It didn’t take long to realize that auditing buildings was not going to lead to the change I wanted to see,” wrote Goldman. “It had to come from personal behavior change.”

The Energy Saver Checklist is a handy list of power-down procedures for faculty and staff to follow each day before leaving their offices.  Goldman’s project was funded by the LEEP Center, Physical Plant, and funds he received from the United States Green Building Council.

Goldman presented the prize to Linn on Tuesday, August 11.
