Drying your hands just got better: new energy-efficient air hand dryers on campus

Have you noticed the new additions to the bathrooms in the University Center, Academic Commons and Jonas Clark?

Over the past year, Clark has installed energy-efficient air hand dryers in bathrooms within the University Center, Academic Commons, and Jonas Clark. These models use 80% less energy than conventional blown-air hand dryers and dry hands completely and sanitarily in less than 15 seconds.

A few hand dryers were first installed as part of a pilot program to gauge community response and measure the cost and resource savings. Sustainable Clark interns monitored paper towel volume and labor costs; the results indicated a significant savings could be realized from replacing paper towels. Following this research, the Student Sustainability Fund helped to fund the dryers installed in the AC and Jonas Clark.
