Alden Quad makeover almost complete

Alden Quad has been under construction since last spring — but soon we all will be able to reap the benefits of the extensive remodeling work in the space. If you have not walked over recently, now is the time!

This week the landscaping will be completed. Trees are in now! Native species including birch, beech, larch, hornbeam, hawthorne and locust will shade the space and invite wildlife to the Quad. Grass and gorgeous planted beds will follow. The new energy-efficient steam distribution system (underground piping) is expected to be fully operational by the first weekend in October. The Alden Quad system includes sophisticated monitoring technology that will maximize resource efficiency, save money and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, thus contributing to our Climate Action Plan goals. In a few short weeks benches and tables (some made of recycled glass and concrete) will complete the makeover.

The new Alden Quad will be a beautiful space, and now you know that underneath all of the shiny new sidewalks, benches and native plants lies a more efficient system that will help Clark consume less energy.
