Prof. Robert Boatright takes part in Nov. 5 Brookings Institution webcast about impact of midterm elections

Tomorrow, Political Science Professor Robert Boatright will participate in a Brookings Institution panel discussion about the lead-up to and impact of the upcoming midterm Congressional elections. The discussion is being held on Nov. 5, which marks one year until the 2014 elections; it will be streamed live online.

Given the narrow margins of majorities in both houses of Congress, the elections will determine the direction of policymaking and the political environment for the remainder of the Obama presidency. As next November draws near, key questions must be answered: What does the landscape look like one year out from Election Day 2014? How has a threat of default and an extended government shutdown changed the midterm election calculus? How might the midterms affect upcoming fiscal battles?

The Center for Effective Public Management at Brookings is hosting this discussion, which will also explore what the primaries might foreshadow for the general election and what the two parties can do to improve their chances of holding or gaining legislative majorities.

The  panel of experts seeks to provide answers to these questions and preview what will be a year of contentious political battles.
