Clark wins award in MassRecycle’s statewide waste reduction competition

Clark University  placed 3rd in the statewide MassRecycle 2012 competition. The university’s innovative campus waste reduction and recycling programs put Clark right after Harvard and Tufts out of all institutions in the state.

MassRecycle, a division of the Dept. of Environmental Protection, reviewed Clark’s collaborative efforts to increase capacity and raise awareness. They compared innovative programs at Clark such as composting, waste audits, the Thrift Store and the work-study Recycling Crew with those of other Massachusetts schools. The review board was particularly impressed by Clark’s student-led efforts — which bring success on a low-to-no budget — and by how all parts of the Clark community work together to increase waste reduction and recycling year-to-year.
