FINAL REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS: Students invited to submit 2012 Davis Projects for Peace ideas; due Jan. 31

A message from the desk of Donald Honeman, Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid:

Clark has once again been invited to participate in the Davis Project for Peace initiative.  This is an invitation for all undergraduates on our campus to design grassroots projects for peace.  The selected submission will be funded at levels up to $10,000 and implemented during the summer of 2012.  Project proposals may take on any focus student applicants choose, although the fundamental purpose is to use creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship in developing ideas designed to build peace in the 21st Century.

As the campus contact for the Davis Program, I will convene a committee to review student proposals.  Proposals should be sent electronically to Melissa Tula in the Admissions Office by January 31, 2012.  The committee will review all submissions and finalists will be forwarded to the Davis UWC Scholars Program.  Final selections will be announced by April 2012.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for our students.  Last year’s Projects for Peace winner from Clark was Amanda Mundt, whose project was designed to promote peace in Haiti by helping break down social and cultural barriers between children living in Restavek (indentured servitude) and free children.  She identified a unique opportunity to develop and run a school-based program which combines teachers and students from a typical mission school and a special Restavek school in Les Cayes, Haiti.

I look forward to working with you on this exciting opportunity!
